Tourist Traps

Before class watch this video about tourist traps and overrated places in Tokyo.  

1. Prepare a two minute talk about your opinions in regards to this video.
2. Prepare a two minute talk about a place in Kyoto that you think is overrated and either recommend a better place or a better way to enjoy the place.

Multicultural Britain

Britain is a multicultural society, for example in my hometown, Birmingham: 46% of people consider themselves to be Christian; 21.8% of people are Muslim, whereas 19.3% have no religion. But there are many other groups as well. For me this is what makes Birmingham great, but others would disagree. Before class please watch the video about multicultural Britain.

1. Prepare a two minute talk about how you feel about multicultural Britain.
2. Because of the aging population in Japan, in the future, Japan may need to invite people from other countries to work here. Prepare a two minute talk about your feelings about this.

Kew Gardens

Before class watch the video "The Top Ten Attractions at Kew Gardens" in England. Choose the three that interest you the most and prepare to tell the class your reasons for each one. Then think about a place that you have visited that has many attractions and prepare a two minute talk introducing some of those attractions.

Passive Smoking

Before class watch the video and answer the questions.

1. What is the new law in the UK?
2. Does this law surprise you? Why or why not?
3. What do cigarettes release? 
4. What illnesses can cigarettes cause?

Passive smoking is a big problem, so in 2007 the British government banned smoking in public buildings. Lot's of other countries have also done this too.  In 2020 the Olympics will come to Japan. Health is the image of the Olympics, so the Japanese government also wants to ban smoking in public buildings. But there are some problems, a lot of Japanese politicians are given money from big tobacco companies. So those politicians say it is better if cafes, bars and restaurants make special smoking areas. But owners of small establishments say this is too expensive. 

What is your opinion about banning smoking in Japanese public buildings. Before class make a two minute talk.
