Before class watch the video and answer the questions.
What is the new law in the UK?
Does this law surprise you? Why or why not?
What do cigarettes release?
What illnesses can cigarettes cause?
Passive
smoking is a big problem, so in 2007 the British government banned
smoking in public buildings. Lot's of other countries have also done
this too. In 2020 the Olympics will come to Japan. Health is the image
of the Olympics, so the Japanese government also wants to ban smoking in
public buildings. But there are some problems, a lot of Japanese
politicians are given money from big tobacco companies. So those
politicians say it is better if cafes, bars and restaurants make special
smoking areas. But owners of small establishments say this is too
expensive.
What is your opinion about banning smoking in Japanese public buildings. Before class make a two minute talk.
